oh my god

so I thought, hey what the fuck, I'll poke my head down to the house section, it'll be a bunch of wannabes making bad happy hardcore, but nooooooo, I get THIS!

YOUR MUSIC IS PERFECT.

Please IM me or something, or send me a PM... I want to learn from you.

Of course it could turn out that you use premade loops... but I seriously doubt that, this sounds professional :)

And all the idiots who said it was slow don't know acid house. Cheers, hope to hear from you.

snayk responds:

Thanks!

Mmm, but R&B?

I liked it except for the beat and the strings which should have been smoother. Your beat is like, 3-3-2, like "k - - k - - k -" but R&B generally stresses beats 2 and 4. So maybe try "k - - k C - - -" where k is kick and c is clap.

Also, doesn't R&B uuuuusually have vox? Just throwing that out there. Maybe it's more of a different genre, but this was a nice listen anyways either way.

TheMerelyHuman responds:

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking R&B because I was gonna sing on it with an R&B style. But for now I guess is misc.

Mmm... 1:50

You've got some good ideas. Then again I tell everyone that.
- Your kick is a little on the punchy side, needs more sub
- 1:50 is a bit random (what are you doing there?)
- Your arrangement is effective but your development needs work. I don't want to hear the same melody line repeated 20 times. It is quite hummable, but don't be afraid to develop it! Work with the rhythm or something. You did this a little bit at 3:40, but it's still the same melody, you need to bring in something more complex.
- Your chord progression isn't special at all, but it works
- How to start and end trance: NOT WITH SYNTHS. Start with a beat, bring your tonals in, end with a beat. Any respectable trance producer does this for his club releases because it is impossible to beatmatch with just your synths in there, try it ;) This may be an "easy listening" release but you aren't going to get any mainstream acceptance until you gain club acceptance first, so... yeah, work towards that. I hate to refer to my own work when reviewing as it is subpar but please listen to my latest work in progress - lay down your beat first. It's a little simplistic but you will get the idea, hopefully.
- Turn the lead down
- Maybe a more "advanced" pad, but just a personal feeling

Rawrthaas responds:

"How to start and end trance: NOT WITH SYNTHS" I was trying something different with this. My latest trance songs other than this "start out with a beat" so obviously I know where you're coming from and have done it countless times in songs.
Thanks for the constructive review :)

I LOVE YOU

Nav responds:

:D :D

wtf

Yes, I'm sure the nes and gameboy had flangers on them.

SolusLunes responds:

YOU'RE DAMN STRAIGHT THEY DID. :D

Your synth is late!

...

I liked everything except for the fact that you screwed your rhythm up the ass.

PianoFortress responds:

damn, I was lazy back then...

...

I like the random notes! Great job!

but seriously
Good drum work, but work on your harmonies

Suspended-3rd-Chord responds:

huh? I didn't think my harmonies were that random :P They did jump around a lot, meaning bigger intervals between notes so it wasnt very smooth- the only part that I felt like I kinda forced was the interlude. But you're entitled to your opinion, thanks for the review! :)

Nothing really that special going on here.

I appreciated the tambourine!

...

Only complaint I've got is that the bass, when playing higher notes, tends to drown out everything else. You can manually counteract this by adjusting individual note volume so that it's more or less homogeneous.

Nav responds:

Haha, you must be using headphones with an artificial bass boost. I actually finely EQed this track so the bass shouldn't clip, just your headphones, or speakers or whatever have a boost to the deep bass, that, while supposedly making it more "hearable" actually causes my finely EQed song to clip and cut out... Try listening with a different set of headphones or speaker.

Thanks for reviewing! :)

What about 2:15?

Yeah, at 2:15 that percussion sample (I can't even figure out what it is) is annoying as hell... it also sounds like you're just playing random notes

TimeBender responds:

It's not a sample and im not really hitting notes either.

Great percussion...

...and a neurofunk, catchy sample to boot. I especially like your emphasis on the offbeats with the drums. Your bass is a little too loud and could use a little more release.

And please, release longer tracks! I'd love to spin your music but it's just too short.

TimeBender responds:

I took that into consideration when I was mixing my current project, I'll update this song also.
